The number 16 bus stole my umbrella.
Which brings the total number of umbrellas claimed by the city since our arrival to 6. Chris left one at Bodeans on our 4th day in London, then two were sacrificed to the Tri-fecta Gods on the same day in November 2008, Chris lost another (on a tube, in a pub, on a bus... no one really knows for sure) and we managed to leave the massive Atlanta EY "borrowed" umbrella in the back of a taxi the day we moved into our first flat. The saddest part of the last one is that we never even got to use it! We carried it around the city several times but never actually opened it on this side of the pond!
6 umbrellas in 13 months. Not bad at all.
On a side note: Can I add an umbrella with lo-jack to my Christmas list???

Rain, Rain, Go Away!!!
We had another umbrella casualty this morning. We were down to 2 very cheap umbrellas... one of which I think we bought while in London on our honeymoon! It was awfully wobbly... now you may be wondering what a wobbly umbrella is like and I can tell you it is not what you want when in London in November. The other was a $6 umbrella I bought Chris after he misplaced is Brookstone, wind resistant, titanium lined, Bond 007 style umbrella... Okay so it was not titanium lined nor did it have any connection with James Bond but it was a nice umbrella!
So... I head out around 11 am to go meet Chris for lunch. I pop open my cheap umbrella and as the fabric blossoms open the handle pops off in my hand and the auto open button flies through the air, landing in the middle of the street. I assessed the situation and decided I could fix the handle if I retrieved the button. As I check for cars... I see the button meet its ultimate demise as it is squashed by a black cab! No hope for the cheap, honeymoon umbrella! I added it to the umbrella graveyard, aka trash can.
I was left with Chris's cheap umbrella (he forgot to take it when he left for work and I was bringing it to him) so I tried to "pop" it open... only to learn that this was not an auto open umbrella! I guess I got what I paid for after all! The moment the wind blew the umbrella was inverted and I was catching rain in the face! At this exact moment, I decided to buy 2 new umbrellas and not the cheap variety! I also decided it was terribly mean of me to buy this crappy umbrella for Chris! I am not a very nice wife... but I made up for it! I bought two, wind resistant, auto open and close umbrellas. They are not wobbly and they certainly were not cheap.
The moral of this story... You can never spend too much money on a good umbrella when living in London in November!

London Gators
Last night, Florida girl and Florida boy found a place to watch the Florida Gators whoop up on Georgia! Leave it to Chris to find a slow cookin' bar-b-q joint in the middle of London that was showing college football. We met some other x-pats who were Gator fans. It was fun to be around other Americans who shared our joy and excitement of Florida football. Chris and Jay (fellow x-apt and Gator) were yelling and dancing around the room... it was hilarious. I am sure the local Londoner's thought we had lost our minds... then again, I have seen them watch soccer/football and it is not much better!
As we bundled up in our coats and scarves to head home, Chris realized that he lost his umbrella. less than 3 full days since our arrival and Chris lost his umbrella! I am a little surprised it lasted as long as it did. We asked our waitress if she had seen it and she laughed! Apparently, umbrellas don't get turned in to lost and found very often!
Around 5:30 pm (London time), Chris left for the airport to catch his 9ish pm flight to Singapore! It was difficult to watch him go down into the tube station with his suitcase. I think this is the 1st time that I have felt genuinely scared! I can hardly believe that I am almost 5,000 miles from my nearest relative and Chris is leaving to go to the other side of the world! I walked Chris to the tube station and gave him a hug and a kiss... I felt this was the least I could do for him! Once back in the Apart'Hotel, I heard some loud booms outside. Come to find out, The City of London arranged fireworks to celebrate Chris's leaving so quickly! Just kidding, there were fireworks but I am pretty sure they were to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day. I snapped a few quick pics...

It is amazing who fireworks instantly cheer me up! I was sad and wanting to cry and then I was laughing and clapping like a little school girl. Yeah for fireworks!
